Most of us do something to benefit from several times a day. You feel like having a hamburger for lunch, but you resist and prefer a salad to lower your cholesterol. You would like to see a film. But instead, you go to the gym or for a walk. We brush our teeth every day because we know how important oral hygiene is. Isn’t our brain just as important as our body – cholesterol levels, exercise or dental hygiene? So why are we ignoring his training?

By exercising your brain regularly, you can improve your memory and concentration, make everyday tasks easier and keep your brain sharp, even as you get older. And as his performance slowly deteriorates over time, it’s important to get a head start. Moreover, you can also improve your emotional balance.

Do you need to exercise your brain even if you are working?

If you think that working full time is enough to exercise your brain, you might be disappointed and surprised. For the first few months, your brain will be fully occupied. And maybe it’ll work that hard for another year or two. But then your work becomes routine. Although it is challenging and requires a lot of decision making, you are not training your brain as it is almost impossible to come across a task you have not encountered before. Just because you’re thinking doesn’t mean you’re exercising your brain.

How can we train our brain?

We use our brains all the time. Even when we move our hands, walk or drink a glass of water. However, this is not training and it is not enough. The key to success is making new synaptic connections. And we can do that by learning a new activity. It doesn’t have to be complicated at all.

Some of the best examples include learning to dance, playing a musical instrument or trying to learn a new foreign language. If you think you can’t master another language, you can work on improving the vocabulary of the one you already know. Just remember that reading new vocabulary is not enough. Simply said, if you want to remember new things, you have to connect or associate them with something – give them a description that your brain will remember and associate them with.

It’s not just about activities – it’s supposed to be a lifestyle

Of course, if you want to practice brain threads, you need to create conditions for them to develop. To do this, you should make sure you get enough sleep and limit caffeine. Excessive drinking of alcohol should also be avoided. Sweet drinks and fried food are among the most inappropriate meals if you want to keep your brain healthy and functioning for as long as possible. If you think about it, all these things are undesirable for your body as well. So you are more motivated to eat healthier and get enough rest.

Brain exercise is even more beneficial for seniors

As we age, our muscles weaken and our memory deteriorates. However, with a healthy diet and brain training, seniors can keep themselves in very good shape. The oldest person ever to run a marathon was 100 years old. The oldest professional bodybuilder is 90 years old. With enough determination, amazing results can be achieved, even when it comes to the brain. But even if we don’t do perfect things, just 30 to 60 minutes of productive brain activity a day, can have a huge impact on people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Brain training can’t cure them, but it can greatly improve cognitive abilities and keep them in much better shape for years to come. And in particular, a healthy lifestyle practiced throughout life is a prevention of dementia.

In Atenacompany we are not satisfied until we’re the best at what we do. We are constantly working to make progress in every possible aspect. And this cannot be achieved if we do not keep our brains sharp. That’s why we learn new things and put a lot of emphasis on tasks that require creativity. We don’t just leave these tasks for certain people in the team, but allow everyone to get involved. By spending 15 minutes a day doing something outside of normal activities, they not only get a break from work, but they also train their brain. If you think 15 minutes a day is nothing, remember that it adds up to more than 60 hours a year.

Do you exercise your brain too? What are your favourite activities?
