It is natural that employers generally choose an employee also on the basis of a profile picture and it is not discrimination. The photo weighs all the more heavily in a family’s decision if they should let the person into their home to care for their parent or grandparent. <\/p>\n\n

Representativeness <\/h2>\n\n

The photo on your CV represents you, and whether you take the time to look at it reflects your attitude to life and work. So don’t take it lightly. It is the first thing a potential employer notices and decides on the first impression<\/strong>, which is essential. It’s appropriate that it plays a role when a company or family is choosing from a pool of job candidates. An inappropriate photo gives a negative impression. It reduces your chances of succeeding and getting the job you are applying for. And it’ s not<\/strong> at all the appearance<\/strong> itself that decides , as you might think, but the quality and suitability of the photo<\/strong>. That’s why we bring you a few tips on how to achieve success through classy photography.<\/p>\n\n

Quality<\/h2>\n\n

Photography should be simple, colourful and of high quality <\/strong>in higher resolution. Blurry, out of focus<\/strong>, too small photos should be avoided. Shoot in natural daylight<\/strong>, not poor lighting, so you can be seen clearly. There should be no shadow visible behind you and do not use flash. The format of the photograph is important, the most suitable is the so-called DIN format, i.e. the aspect ratio of 2:3 or 3:4. Photos scanned from an ID card or passport are not suitable. <\/p>\n

Timeliness <\/h2>\n\n

The photo must be from the present<\/strong>. Don’t send an outdated photo where you’re 20 years younger or look significantly different to how you look now<\/strong> and don’t look like yourself – for example, you have a different hair colour. When they see you during a job interview, it won’t come across as credible. <\/p>\n\n

Minimum adjustments<\/h2>\n\n

Beware<\/strong> of excessive effects, filters<\/strong> or retouching<\/strong>. Bold edits are good to use for photos intended for social media like Instagram, but not for a resume when you’re looking for a job. The photo is supposed to show what you really look like<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

A photo of you <\/h2>\n\n

Take a picture of just yourself without any objects<\/strong> (cars in the background, a glass of alcohol or a cigarette in your hand) and people. Do not send photos of you with children, other people, pets <\/strong>or clients<\/strong> you have cared for in the past. Don’t wear sunglasses or headgear – hats, caps, beanies – so you can see your face and eyes clearly. By directing your gaze directly into the lens, you’ll make contact with the person looking at it. Do not include photos from family parties, holidays, leisure activities<\/strong> or while driving on your CV. Do not send your face cropped from group photos. Snapshots<\/strong> are not appropriate either. <\/p>\n

Portrait <\/h2>\n\n

The photo should be of a portrait type<\/strong>, similar to an ID card or other document, i.e. a picture of the face approximately up to the shoulders. Photos of the whole body or half waist are useless. The most ideal is to have a neutral monochrome background<\/strong> behind you, a bright wall without distracting elements<\/strong> – appliances, furniture, paintings, flower pots. Avoid mirror shots and selfies, which<\/strong> aren’t good enough for your phone’s front camera anyway. Have someone take your picture<\/strong>, it doesn’t have to be a professional photographer, ask someone close to you. <\/p>\n

Naturalness <\/h2>\n\n

Keep your natural self. Women should be finely groomed<\/strong> in photos. Avoid bold make-up<\/strong>, lipstick or revealing clothing<\/strong>. Smile gently to appear sympathetic and friendly<\/strong>. Don’t look too serious, but don’t look too mocking either. A smile from ear to ear is not suitable, and pouting lips will not work as well. Take care with your clothing, choose clothes of a more formal nature<\/strong> (don’t wear sweatpants, more casual clothes, but not too formal clothes, a suit), although only a small part of it will be visible. You definitely need to look well groomed in the photo, be well coiffed with washed hair, so that you don’t look unkempt. Distinctive jewellery – earrings or necklaces that distract attention from your face are not acceptable. <\/p>\n
