Looking for a job abroad can seem like a daunting task, but if you follow our advice, your search will be a little easier.
Working abroad is a dream for many. But the road to the dream is not easy. There are many tasks ahead of you that are linked to your job search. You have to go through a lengthy visa process to start working legally in another country.
The good news is – it’s all worth it!
Being abroad is not just about working, it’s also about meeting new people, travelling, discovering a different “world” and learning new things. You will have the opportunity to improve your language skills and thus find it easier to enter the job market, either at home or abroad.
The first, and probably the hardest, part of finding a job abroad is finding a position you can apply for. Jobs are plentiful, but where to look?

  1. Reach out to friends. If you graduated from high school or college, network with other alumni. Find out if there are any graduates abroad and try to contact them.
  2. Browse social networks. LinkedIn is a fantastic place to start. Check out the job listings every day based on your preferences. Create (edit) your profile so that it stands out.
  3. Visit job fairs. Slovak job fairs are world-class and there are plenty of job opportunities. Even if you don’t find the right place for you, you can consult the professionals. They will help you know where and how to look.
  4. Reach out to agencies. A recruitment agency can be a responsible companion in your job search abroad. For some positions, there is a possibility that they will handle all the costs associated with the trip for you.
  5. Study abroad. Go study and work. It is the easiest way to get abroad, without lengthy processes. Alongside your studies, you’ll gain a wealth of contacts that can help you in your job search. However, beware, the number of working hours is limited. There are also internships available, where you can get a long-term contract once you’re settled in.
  6. Search in person. This option is risky and will show your determination. You have to travel to the country, go to a lot of interviews and count on considerable costs. Although it is illegal to work in another country on a visitor visa, it is not illegal to look for work on it.

We hope we’ve given you a little guidance on how and where to look for your dream job abroad. Just be proactive, keep looking every day. Because no one will find you at home.
